Frequently Asked Questions

Is the latest patch just for Episode 4?
Do I need to download the patches for the other episodes?

No, the latest patch comes with Episodes 1 through 3 included, along with Episode 4. Download the latest patch from the link on the home page and you'll be all set to play everything available so far!

I see two options for the patch: upgrade and complete.
Which should I download?

The "upgrade" patch is for upgrading an ISO of Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai Portable
from the Episode 3 patch to the Episode 4 patch. This is offered as a convenience for players
of previous patch versions as it allows the patch to be a much smaller download.
This patch will not work with any other version of the patch, or with the original unmodified Japanese ISO.

The "complete" patch is for converting the original unmodified Japanese ISO for
Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai Portable to the latest Episode 4 patch,
working just like how previous versions of the patch did.

Do I need a unmodified ISO each time, or can I "upgrade" my patch from a previous version?

If you use the "upgrade" version of the patch, you can upgrade to Episode 4 if you have the Episode 3
patch already applied to your ISO of Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai Portable.
However, the "upgrade" version of the patch does not work with any other previous version.
In that case, you must use the "complete" version of the patch and apply it to the original and unmodified
Japanese ISO for Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai Portable.

How many Episodes are in the game?

The game has seven Episodes in total.

Does the patch work on real hardware?

Yes, so long as your PSP or PS Vita is jailbroken to play homebrew and mods, the Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai English patch will run just fine on real hardware.

Does the patch work on the PS2 version?

No, the patch only works on the PSP version of Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai, known as Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai Portable.

Will you make a patch for the PS2 version?

There are currently no plans to make a patch for the PS2 version.

The reason for this is primarily because of the additional effort required to maintain two versions, as well as the fact that a lot of work done on the PSP version would not work on the PS2 version due to the two versions not being exactly the same. The PSP version is the definitive version of the game with additional content and quality of life changes, so my focus is on providing the highest quality patch I can for that version rather than spread myself thin.

I can't wait for the patch!
Is there some way I can experience the game in the meantime?

You're in luck! This patch actually is a continuation of a YouTube series I did from 2020-2024 where I did a 100% playthrough of the game and translated everything along the way. While the translation in these videos is a first draft that can be a bit rough in places, it is accurate for the most part and got better as it went on. You can find it here.

Currently, the patch for Episodes 1-4 is released, so if you want to continue from where the patch left off, you should start with part 128.

Is there a place where I can download the CGs/character sprites from the game?

A dump of the game's image assets is right here.

A fan, Smearglexd, also graciously took the time to assemble many of the character sprites
and put them right here.
