Episode 1: Lucky Lucky Memorial

Game Guide

Naming the Protagonist

Upon selecting "New File" on the title screen, you'll be taken to the above screen
where you can enter a name for the protagonist to have. The contents of the first
three circles is the protagonist's first name, while the contents of the last three
circles is the protagonist's last name. Some characters will primarily refer to the
protagonist by his first name while others will primarily refer to him by his last name,
so be mindful of this when choosing a name.

Additionally, the protagonist has no official name. The name "Yoshi Kubo" used in the
translator's notes and guides is my own invention, so while I would be honored if you
were to choose to use that name, I encourage you to use any name you like!

You'll also notice that for each letter, you have the upper and lower case version,
but also every two letter combination that starts with that letter. This is to allow you
to enter names that are up to six letters in length for both the first and last name.
Notice how "Yoshi Kubo" was actually entered in as "Yo sh i Ku bo".

If you select the "?123" circle on the bottom left, you can enter symbols
for the name. However, do note that there are no dual character glyphs for
symbols, so each symbol will take up an entire slot for your name.

Special Names

There are several names the game treats as special, and will result in
a special voice clip that plays upon selecting the checkmark symbol to confirm
the name. These are a leftover from the PS2 version of the game, where this was how
you accessed the game's unlockable mini scenarios. However, in this version, all that
happens is you get some special voice clips.

What follows is a list of all the special names, written out in the way you have to enter
them in-game in order to get the voice clip, as well as a translation of what they say in
the voice clip. Note that these are case-sensitive and you need to properly split it up
between first and last name, as well as properly utilizing the dual character glyphs.
For instance, "Ko u" takes only two slots, so the first slot must be "Ko", the second "u",
and the third slot must be blank

Mini Scenarios

Mini scenarios are unlockable bonus scenes that take place outside of the main story.
They can be accessed by choosing "Extras" on the title screen, then "Episode +".
This Episode has two that you can unlock. These are:

  • Tsukasa Mini Scenario -- Unlocked by getting the good ending to Tsukasa's Lucky Lucky Memorial route.

  • Miyuki Mini Scenario -- Unlocked by getting the good ending to Miyuki's Lucky Lucky Memorial route.

Though you might expect there to be a Konata Mini Scenario that's unlocked by getting
the good ending to Konata's Lucky Lucky Memorial route, the Konata Mini Scenario is actually
unlocked much later on into the game so it won't appear yet.

How to get the good endings to each route will be explained further down.

A Quick Note on Quick Saving

A relatively unknown feature of this game is the quick save system.
To access this menu, press SELECT + R while reading through the story.
Here you'll see that the game automatically makes a quick save for the most
recent choice you have encountered, making it easy to check out what happens
when you pick each of the different choices. You can also make your own quick save by pressing UP.

Quick saves can be loaded via the quick load menu.
To access it, press SELECT + L while reading through the story.
The quick saves can then be loaded by pressing UP or DOWN.

Note that the quick save system is disabled while playing mini scenarios.

What do you mean, "BONUS!!!"?

If you choose to replay the Lucky Lucky Memorial routes
on a save file that's already gone through Lucky Lucky Memorial once,
the protagonist will put some money in his wallet before going to school
on the morning after he agrees to play Shirou.
You'll then see this "BONUS!!!" pop-up and will hear a "ding" sound effect.
This "BONUS!!!" pop-up is specifically used to indicate when you have obtained
money. In this case, replaying the Konata, Miyuki, or Tsukasa Lucky Lucky Memorial routes
awards you 120 yen.

What is this money used for? In Episode 1, nothing! However, in future episodes there is
something you are able to spend your money on, which I'll talk more about when it becomes
relevant.

How Route Guides Works

Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai is a visual novel.
Therefore, the gameplay entirely consists of picking one of a few choices
at many places throughout the story. The route guides seen below will show
all of the places where the choice you make has a greater impact than merely
the dialogue that immediately follows it and will explain the impact each choice has.
This guide will also point out any point in the story where what happens is influenced
by the sum total of the choices you've made previously and how to see all possible outcomes.
If a choice isn't mentioned in this guide, it's because it has no impact on what happens.

Nearly everything in this game is determined based on various internal values that go up
when a certain choice is picked. In this Episode, the only values you have to worry about
are the "favorability" values the protagonist has with the main four Lucky Star girls:
Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki. These values will play a special sound effect
whenever one increases. At the start of the Episode, each of these values is set to 0.

Route Guide -- Intro

  • Stay calm and take my time -- Konata favorability + 4

  • Run as fast as I can -- Miyuki favorability + 4

  • Look up the school online -- Kagami favorability + 4, Tsukasa favorability + 4

This choice also influences which characters the protagonist meets first and therefore who
will be the one who will recognize the protagonist after his self-introduction.

For "Stay calm and take my time", it's Konata.

For "Run as fast as I can", it's Miyuki.

And for "Look up the school online", it's Tsukasa.

  • Look at the girl from earlier

The "girl from earlier" will be whoever recognized the protagonist after his self-introduction.

    • If the "girl from earlier" is Konata, Konata favorability + 2

    • If the "girl from earlier" is Miyuki, Miyuki favorability + 2

    • If the "girl from earlier" is Tsukasa, Tsukasa favorability + 2

  • Look at the other transfer student -- no effect.

As the "girl from earlier" can differ, the scene that plays out for this choice
also differs somewhat based on whether that girl is Konata, Miyuki, or Tsukasa.

Whoever recognized the protagonist after his self-introduction
will be the one to call out to him after he sees Yamato in the courtyard
when he gets a drink during a break on his first day, resulting in a different
scene where the protagonist is told about the Star Sakura Tree.

Whoever recognized the protagonist after his self-introduction
will be the one to introduce the protagonist to the rest of the
main four Lucky Star girls during lunch on the first day, resulting
in slightly different scenes of the characters introducing themselves.

Once you see this line during the lunch scene on the first day,
this is where all differences that depended on that initial choice
on how not to be late getting to school come to an end.
From here on, that choice doesn't matter aside from the favorability gained.

  • I worry I won't be helpful -- Kagami favorability + 3, Miyuki favorability + 3

  • I worry I won't have free time -- Konata favorability + 3

  • I worry I won't get enough sleep -- Tsukasa favorability + 3

  • Only by name -- Tsukasa favorability + 3, Miyuki favorability + 3

  • I'm really into them! -- Konata favorability + 3

  • What are they? -- Kagami favorability + 3

Depending on which character has the most favorability by the time
the protagonist goes home on the first day, he will get an email from that character that night.
The characters you can get an email from are: Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki.

  • Facilitator -- Miyuki favorability + 3

  • Stage crew -- Tsukasa favorability + 3

  • Can I be an actor instead? -- Kagami favorability + 3, Konata favorability + 3

  • Calm down, Kagami-san! -- Miyuki favorability + 3

  • Scold Nagamori-san -- no effect

  • See what happens -- no effect

Route Guide -- Lucky Lucky Memorial

Once you reach this line, you are officially out of the intro and in
Lucky Lucky Memorial proper. All favorabilities get reset to zero,
so all previous choices no longer have any impact on what happens next.

  • What did you think, Konata-san? -- Konata favorability + 2

  • I don't know, really... -- no effect

  • And if I said no? -- no effect

  • Yes, Miyuki-san -- Miyuki favorability + 2

  • What do you think, Tsukasa-san? -- Tsukasa favorability + 2

  • Let's find another way -- no effect

  • Okay -- Konata favorability + 2

  • Once you get to this line, taking place on the morning of the third day,
which route you get put on is determined by which character the
protagonist has the most favorability with, or Konata's route if there is a tie.
For Episode 1 the characters whose routes you can end up on are Konata's, Miyuki's, or Tsukasa's.
You will also be given an additional +4 to the favorability of whichever character's route you ended up on
once you advance past this line.

Keep in mind that the favorability resets when Kagami practices the Archer summoning ritual scene,
so the 3 most recent choices are the only ones that influence what route you end up on.

So if you want to end up on the Konata route, pick the following choices:

    1. What did you think, Konata-san?

    2. And if I said no?

    3. Okay

If you want to end up on the Miyuki route, pick the following choices:

    1. I don't know, really...

    2. Yes, Miyuki-san

    3. Let's find another way

And if you want to end up on the Tsukasa route, pick the following choices:

    1. I don't know, really...

    2. What do you think, Tsukasa-san?

    3. Let's find another way

Route Guide -- Lucky Lucky Memorial (Konata Route)

  • It's delicious -- Konata favorability + 2

  • The flavor's a bit strong -- no effect

  • ...30 points -- no effect

  • This scene after Konata gets mad at the protagonist and storms out of
play practice contains the first check you have to pass to get the good ending.
To pass the check, you need at least 8 favorability points with Konata.
If you pass the check, you will see the above line and the interaction that follows it
where Kagami almost says something about Konata and gets flustered.
If you fail the check, the scene will play out a bit differently.

If you want to see the version of this scene where you fail the check, you will have to
make sure you only have at most 2 favorability points with Konata upon starting the route,
as otherwise the +4 favorability received at the start of the route will put you at 8 favorability points,
meaning you will already be passing the check.

  • Talk about video games -- no effect

  • I feel the same way you do -- no effect

If you pass the check, you will see the above line and the interaction that follows it
where Konata asks the protagonist what his plans are after the play and you'll get the Konata good ending.
If you fail the check, the scene will play out a bit differently and you'll get the Lucky Lucky Memorial bad ending.

    where Tsukasa suddenly gets quiet.
If you fail the check, the scene will play out a bit differently.

  • Talk about anime -- Konata favorability + 2

  • Talk about manga -- no effect

  • Talk about video games -- no effect

  • I wouldn't mind kissing you! -- Tsukasa favorability + 2

  • It's okay -- no effect

  • I require ten more drinks -- no effect

  • This scene with Tsukasa on the night before the school festival
contains the second and final check you have to pass to get the good ending.
To pass the check, you need at least 10 favorability points with Tsukasa and to have passed the previous check.
